Guru Nanak is the founder of the Sikh religion and he based the religion on his teaching that him and his 9 gurus followed. He was born in 1469 and is said to be one of the greatest religious leaders of all time due to his religious ideas that both the hindu and islamic faith follow. Although he was born into a Hindu family he showed an interest in a religious life and therefore started the Sikh religion. Despite Guru Nanak’s wife and family he turned his life into being extremely spiritual and expressing this though poems and other forms of writing.

The Sikh religion believe a number of different principles. They believe that to live a happy and full life you must keep god in your heart in mind. They mostly live a life of treating everyone equally and be generous to all people, including the less fortunate. They stress the importance of not only following the religion and carrying out rituals but to also do good actions to the people around us. The word Sikh means discipline or student and this is how they live their lives.

The five Ks of the Sikh religion are Kesh, meaning you have uncut hair, Kara a steel bracelet that is worn on your wrist to show your religious involvement, Kanga a wooden comb to brush hair, Kaccha which is cotton underwear and Kirpan, a steel sword. They were made to identify the people that are a part of the Sikh religion and whether or not they are dedicated. All of the K’s have their own spiritual purpose and reason for why they are on the list.

They believe that parents are aloud to assist in the role of paring who they marry and also that children are not to be married.
